An environmentally friendly alternative to cling film you must try!

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

Beeswax wrap paper is the perfect alternative to plastic cling film. It has many of the same qualities, able to wrap and mold around objects. A bonus is that they last for months at a time, and can be reused again and again!

Beeswax paper, although a great option, many are deterred by its price when bought online. So here is a simple and cheap guide to making your own beeswax paper

You will need:

- large pieces of 100% pure organic cotton fabric

- packet of beeswax pellets

- oven or an iron

- baking paper

Method One (using an oven):

1) place your piece of cotton onto baking paper and tray

2) distribute a fair number of pellets evenly across the fabric

3) place in the hot oven

4) make sure the beeswax has fully melted over all the fabric (you may need to spread it around or add extra pellets on certain spots)

5) remove the fabric from the oven before it begins to burn/char

6) scrape/peel the fabric out of the tray carefully (maybe use a fork, BEWARE OF HEAT) and before laying it down, hold it out/unfurl it out completely and shake it/wave it in the air till it dries.

Method Two (using an iron)

There are many useful tutorials online which can take you through the process in more detail.
